Description
Shown on Ordnance Survey second edition. Corner of Hare Street and Scotswood Road. Said to be sited in 'one of the best positions on the busy thoroughfare and carrying on a very large trade'. It was rebuilt in 1901. Designed by J Wardle Donald of South Shields - the acute angle of the corner site was emphasised with a two storey circular tower. Name shortened to Duke of Cumberland in 1913. Bought by Newcastle Breweries for £3500 in 1943 and closed in 1965.
