On Saturday morning 9th February 1861...during a terrific east-south-east gale...
Later that morning, at 8am...Two hours later, the brig INDUS, coal laden, put back to the Tyne, owing to the gale, was wrecked on the Herd Sand. The lifeboat NORTHUMBERLAND put off and rescued the crew of 9.
