Description
National School shown on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Plan, c.1855. It was established in 1842 and, in 1856, was attended by c.120 children and supported by the Earl of Durham. Robert and Margaret Gray are listed as teachers in Whellan's Directory of 1856. A larger school was built to the south of the village by the late 19th century.
