Description
Spelter works shown on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey Plan 1897 but marked as disused. Spelter is often used to identify a zinc alloy, possibly using equal parts of copper and zinc for hard soldering and brazing, or as an alloy of zinc and lead to form an alternative for bronze. In this usage, zinc alloy was common for many cheap 19th century cast articles such as candlesticks.
