          Description
              Original name of Bailey or Baliff Chare. The presnt name stuck to the street after an 18th century dispute between the landlord of the Half Moon Lane Inn and a mason owning land in the street, who wanted to call it Marble Street. There has been a Half Moon Inn  on the street since at least 1720 the present one dates from 1891.
