Description
Toll Road from Gateshead to Wolsingham (County Durham). Had a Toll House at Fugar, (HER 3744). The Turnpike Trust was formed in 1797 to improve the route between Gateshead and Wolsingham. A new route was chosen from Streetgate to Maiden Law, following Marley Hill Lane to High Marley Hill, then to Crookgate, The Hobson, Flint Hill and Catchgate.
