Description
Spectacular artificially created waterfall. Created by Armstrong in the 1860s. One of the most prominent features in the Dene (see also HER 5700). The waterfall contrasted with the broad tranquil expanse of water in the widened section of the Ouseburn to the immediate north.Armstrong aimed to add drama to the water by forcing it to rush over the cascades. The sound of rushing water and the effects of the play of light added depth and contrast to the experience of the pleasure grounds (Fiona Green).
