Description
1976 by Michael Rizzello. Painted bronze portrait roundels of E.M. Bainbridge, John Lewis and John Spedan Lewis mounted behind a window in the side of the John Lewis store. Each roundel is 30cm diameter. In 1838 Emerson Muschamp Bainbridge opened a shop at 12 Market Street in Newcastle, which grew into the world's first department store. In 1953 the Bainbridge business joined the John Lewis Partnership. Bainbridge moved to Eldon Square in 1976.
