Description
In January 1843 the SNOW Percy was entering South Shields from London when she was wrecked on Black Middens Rocks and began to break up. Her master, Captain Hair, the ship's boy and the cook, tried to swim ashore but were drowned. The rest of the crew were saved by a seaman, William Wheeler, in his boat.
