Shields 4th January - The following vessels have been driven on the rocks in taking the bar during a severe gale from SSE: the ANNS of this port, the ARETHUSA, NEW MESSENGER, ELIZA of Kirkwall; the crew of the latter vessel drowned, all the others saved. The vessels stranded on the rocks have become wrecks; stores are being saved.
