Description
A Railway associated with the construction of the South Pier and Groyne (HER refs. 2429 & 2429). It linked these sites with Trow Rocks Quarry and the Commissioner's Staiths, (HER refs. 2390 & 2434). The line was built by the Tyne Improvement Commission in 1854, first worked by horses, then from 1876 by a locomotive.
