A small field north of Moor View, on the eastern side of Station Road to the south of Backworth village, contains extent ridge and furrow. This ridge and furrow trends north to south and has an approximate wavelength of 4 metres. It survives to a maximum height of 0.3 metres. These earthworks form part of the once extensive field system around Backworth. The ridge & furrow cultivation method originated in the Saxon period and survived in use until the 19th century.
