Description
Grave of Charles W. Mitchell, painter. Mitchell created the fine windows at the Church of St. George, Jesmond and also designed the figures in the chancel mosaic. His father Charles Mitchell, Lord Armstrong's partner, paid for the church. At Jesmond Towers (the Mitchell family home, now La Sagesse High School) a square bay window in the morning or drawing room, with flowers painted in the lights of the stone tracery, and an Arts-and-Crafts dado painted with flowing leafy stems and flowers may have been the work of C.W. Mitchell according to Pevsner. LOCAL LIST
