Middle Street lay in-between Cloth Market and Groat Market. It was divided into three sections - Skinnergate at the top, Spurriergate in the middle and Sadlergate at the bottom. In Middle Street, according to Gray, there was an ancient house with a large gate, called the Scots Inn, where the "Kings Nobility and Lards of Scots lodged in time of Truce or League with Engalnd".

A second parapet figure presumably from the town walls, with a helmet, was donated to the Society of Antiquaries by J. W Alexander for British Insulated cables Ltd in 1932. Dated C14th.

A stone figure and the head of another were found together below the surface of Melbourne Street in January 1932 while cables were being laid. The figure represents a warrior, 3/4 inch in length armed with sword and shield. It wears a hood and pointed beard. It is mounted on a length of coping, no doubt from a parapet of one of the turrets of the town wall. Dated C14th.

Stone carved with a thistle, and decorated window tracery were found when houses were being demolished at the Head of The Side. Donated to the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne by the town surveyor in 1856.

Small bronze snuffer-like object said to have been found at The Side. May be of Roman date.

Dr Charlton, on behalf of the Corporation of Newcastle, presented The Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne with a rosary in 1856. It had been found in the ruins of an old house at the Head of The Side. It was not thought to be older than 18th century in date. It was thought that there had been a Catholic place of worship here before the move to Westgate. An amulet was also found here - presented to the Society in 1856 by a Mr Bryson, town surveyor. It was described as being like a pincushion, very greasy with long wear. When opened it contained the first two pages of the Vulgate version of the Gospel of St John, in tiny letters.The type implies that the find was either late medieval or post medieval. The old stone building, latterly occupied by Mr Dickenson the tobacconist, apparently dated to the beginning of the C14. It is described by Gray as "an ancient stone house, an appendix to the castle" which belonged to the Lord Lumleys. [Newcastle Chronicle, 16 May 1856].

Under the town court (guildhall) was the weigh-house where the Clerk of the Chamber and the Chamberlain received taxes for coal, salt, ballast grinding stones etc.

Two huge stone balls found on Sandhill. One is marked XII. Donated to the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne by Corporation of Newcastle in 1865.

Several large ballista balls were found during alterations of the Exchange on Sandhill. Donated to the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne by Directors of the Newcastle Exchange in 1899.

Spear head, inlaid with silver, Italian C17. Found whilst excavating a cellar at Sandgate. Donated to the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne by Robert Brooks, Esq in 1884.
