Description
Evidence of Roman occupation dating to the 3rd-4th centuries. Features include a Roman ditch on the former parcel office site and a smaller ditch recorded between the railway arches south of the parcel office. A substantial amount of Roman pottery was also recovered from the site. This activity is thought to be related to the delineation of areas close to the military area, the terminus of Hadrian's Wall and the Pons Aelius fort, rather than any domestic activity relating to the Vicus.
