A number of former estate buildings associated with the wealthy houses which break through the tall limestone walls on the south side of North Guards. Most are now converted for residential use. The Limes former coach house has a good Welsh slate roof but inappropriate modern windows, Velux-style rooflights, painted stonework and modern fascias. A former brick carriage arch to Whitburn House has been sympathetically infilled. The former estate cottages have been modernised with render, Tudor boards, mock shutters and modern windows, harming their historic character.

Pair of hipped roof Victorian semis on the site of the 1812 Wesleyan chapel. Much altered with render, concrete tiles and modern windows.

Pair of attractive Victorian stone houses set slightly back from the pavement behind a low boundary wall with modern railings. Welsh slate roofs, paired sash windows, timber mullions and stone detailing.

Includes the post office (No. 13). A prominent white, roughcast rendered building with a slate roof. Altered windows. Next to the narrow entrance to Chicks Lane (HER 12512).

Still a working farm. Ivy-covered stone farmhouse with its gable to North Guards. Welsh slate hipped roof. Later door and casement windows. Neat hedge and picket fence to the street. There is a cluster of whitewashed farm buildings, some in need of repair. Silos and stores to the north and west are enclosed with a magnesian limestone boundary wall.

Pair of stone cottages with hipped slate roofs. Rich attractive stonework spoiled by heavy repointing and UPVC windows and doors.

A terrace in squared rock faced sandstone with Welsh slate roofs, brick chimneys and canted bays. Original sash windows have been lost and Velux-style rooflights have been added.

Mid to late 20th century terrace in buff brick with shallow pitched roofs, horizontally proportional windows, flat roofed porches and deep fascias. The terrace has a strong consistent architectural style which should be protected from incremental change. Low limestone boundary walls to the street. Buckingham Close to the rear is similar in age and design, and is bounded by high magnesian limestone walls.

Tightly packed two storey buildings with varying ridge heights and building materials. Most have lost their original character by having frontages painted or rendered and original slate roofs replaced by fake slates or concrete tiles. First floor windows are casement replacements (some in uPVC some in timber). Several flat-roofed extensions have been added.

This flamboyant building on the corner of East Street and North Guards dates from around 1895. It is Arts & Craft inspired with red brick, painted moulded lintels and cills, curved shop window hoods, sash windows and shaped gables. It has a large Venetian window and an open rooftop lantern.
