Description
On Saturday 11th March, 1865, the brig FLY of Seaham, while returning to the Tyne, for shelter during a howling easterly gale, blew to the Herd Sand. The lifeboat TYNE got alongside, and just as the last man jumped into the lifeboat, the FLY went to pieces. The rescued were: Mr Allen, master; Mr Seamer, mate; Mr Thomas, able seaman; Mr West, able seaman; Mr Ward, able seaman; and a boy apprentice called Miller.
