There is a flagpole in a paved garden outside the British Legion Office. Set into the gravel at the foot of the flagpole are four square slabs each with a line from Lawrence Binyon's 'For the Fallen' poem: "THEY SHALL GROW NOT OLD AS WE ARE LEFT TO GROW OLD"; "AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN"; AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING"; "WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM" {www.newmp.org.uk}.

Cross of Sacrifice, Blomfield type. Cross on octagonal base with bronze crusader's sword on the front. The cross is surrounded by Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstones. "TO THE HONOURED MEMORY OF FOUR HUNDRED SAILORS AND SOLDIERS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918. TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY OF WHOM LIE IN THIS CEMETERY, SEVENTY FIVE IN SUNDERLAND CEMETERY AND NINETY FIVE IN MERE KNOLL CEMETERY, ALL IN THE BOROUGH OF SUNDERLAND. A crucifix, 5m high on a 2m base. "GREATER LOVE THAN THIS NO MAN HATH THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS ST. JOHN 15:13. TO THE MEMORY OF THE SOLDIERS AND SAILORS OF ST. AIDAN'S CONGREGATION, WILLINGTON QUAY, WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918. MAY THEY REST IN PEACE". 70 names are listed. The church was demolished in 2004 {www.newmp.org.uk}.

Calvary on a tall square plinth. There is a plaque on the front commemorating the dead of the Great War 1914-1918 {www.newmp.org.uk}. The memorial takes the form of a tall crucifixion. The cross and hood are in oak. The figure of Christ crucified is painted white. The cross rises from a coursed stone plinth, square on plan and with a low pyramidal top. A small black plaque to the front face of the plinth bears the dedication prayer from the Mass for the dead, in Latin followed by English, reading PIE JESU DOMINE/ DONA EIS/ REQUIEM SEMPITERNAM/ MERCIFUL LORD JESUS/ GRANT THEM/ ETERNAL REST.This is an imposing example of the Calvary type of war memorial, standing close to the Grade II-listed Church Of Our Blessed Lady Immaculate and Presbytery adjoining.The monument was listed Grade II in February 2017 for the following principal reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on this local community, and the sacrifices it made in the First World War;
* Architectural interest: a tall and imposing Calvary cross;
* Group value: with the Church Of Our Blessed Lady Immaculate and Presbytery adjoining (Grade II-listed).

This war memorial was listed Grade II in 2017 with the following description:
'The tall granite memorial stands outside the west end of St Anthony’s Church (not listed), on Belmont Street, Walker. It takes the form of a small cross with a moulded foot rising from the cornice of a shaft, square in section. The shaft stands on a corniced octagonal plinth, which stands on a three-stepped base. The shaft’s cornice is ornamented with a carved frieze of foliage, whilst a small shield is carved in relief at the top of each side of the shaft. The plinth’s cornice is also carved with foliage.
The dedicatory inscription carved into the front face of the plinth reads REMEMBER WITH HONOUR/ THOSE WHO BY THEIR DEATH/ HAVE ENNOBLED/ THIS VILLAGE IN/ THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-18. The commemorated names are recorded on the remaining faces of the plinth.'
A granite cross, 2 feet 6 inches high on a tapering sandstone plinth 8 feet high and an octagonal base and three steps 2 feet 6 inches high. {www.newmp.org.uk}. The memorial was unveiled on 19 July 1921 by Major JG Leathart MC and dedicated by the vicar, Reverend HA Hand. It commemorates 24 local servicemen who died in the First World War, and a further 51 who served and returned. The memorial cross was funded through public subscription, whilst the plot was donated by Lord Northbourne. The memorial was sculpted by Robert Beall of Newcastle who was responsible for a number of other war memorials in the region, including those at Haltwhistle, Corbridge, and Fatfield (all Grade II).
A time capsule including coins, the names of the War Memorial Committee members, and copies of local newspapers, was enclosed under the memorial steps.

This tree was planted by the water beside the Council Chamber in July 1936. The plaque at its foot reads: "THIS TREE WAS PLANTED BY MR FRANK GRAHAM TO COMMEMORATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD MAYOR COUNCILLOR J.P. LAING JULY 1986". Frank Graham is a publisher and historian who fought in this war {www.newmp.org.uk}.

A tank named 'Tynemouth' returned from Flanders, was placed at Sharpness Point and two field guns were placed in Northumberland Park on 21st June 1919. The tank was driven in procession from Tynemouth Station along Percy Park Road to Grand Parade. The tank and guns were first seen as patriotic trophies but by 1923 they were reviewed as eyesores and were removed. The tank was apparently sold for £20. {www.newmp.org.uk}.

Two strake boats were unveiled as war memorials on 7th May 1921. They were named after two members of the club and were a memorial to five other rowing club members who fell during the First World War. They have disappeared {www.newmp.org.uk}.
