Description
The oldest buildings surround a yard opening to the east, and are mostly of coursed limestone rubble; roofs are Welsh slate or asbestos sheets. The house forms the eastern part of the south range; its general proportions and quite steep roof suggest a mid 18th century date. A sandstone north-east wing looks late 19th or perhaps early 20th century. The farm buildings show little in the way of datable features; there are patches of 20th century brick around the heads of several openings. There was once a gingang on the west side of the south end of the range. The 1860 map also shows a range extending west from the north end of the west range, which has now gone.

A substantial complex of buildings, the main house forming the south range of a roughly square courtyard. All its walls are rendered. Facing south, the house (now subdivided) is in three parts. The ground floor is of three symmetrical bays, and has a central doorway. The floors above are of five irregular bays. The core of the house may be of 17th or early 18th century origin.
The brick range to the east of the courtyard date to the 18th century. 19th century ranges are also extant. An old walled garden to the south west of the house has a heated wall on the west. Ponds shown to the east of the house on the 1857 OS map are characteristic of Tudor and Stuart formal gardens which might imply the house formerly faced east rather than west as now.
On the tithe map of 1839, the farmstead was surrounded by a series of fields and plantations. The property was owned by the widow Mary Crofton and George Townsend Fox Esq. Tithe was paid to the Reverend Edward South Thurlow. The farmstead and surrounding fields were occupied by the Hetton Coal Company. In the apportionments, Little Eppleton farmstead was referred to as House Steads and Folds,
and Pleasure Ground and Mansion House. All plantations were also occupied by George Townsend Fox Esq. In 1856, Mrs Fox was the main landowner. Eppleton Hall was inhabited by Lieutenant-Colonel Parkinson, while George and Robert Towns resided in Little Eppleton as farmers. The majority of the land surrounding the farmstead and hall were occupied by the Hetton Coal Company. Just 20 years later, in 1879, Eppleton Hall was occupied by Thomas Lishman and Richard Nicholson was noted down as a farmer in Little Eppleton.
The small farmhouse within the larger farmstead was recorded in 2018 by WAA.

Description
Pits and postholes were excavated in Half Moon Yard in 2013. A sample of one of the pits was radiocarbon dated to c.389-206BC, the first radiocarbon dated evidence of Iron Age activity within the centre of Newcastle. Plant remains were recovered from the pits typical of the early Iron Age. It is possible that these features are the remains of roundhouses or other structures from Iron Age settlement.

Description
Infants school (1873) supported by Hetton Coal Company closed in 1950s and reopened in 1961 as a library. Peter Ryder describes the building as roughly squared and coursed limestone with cut dressings, Welsh slate roofs with red tile ridge. T-plan buildings, the gables all have round-arched openings with brick heads apparently infilling larger Gothic arches, with blind quatrefoils above. The other windows have stop-chamfered lintels: modern porch to south end gable.
