South panel commemorates dead of First World War; inscription on step those of Second. Top of plinth inscribed AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. LISTED GRADE 2

Memorial. Circa 1918 for Borough of Wallsend. Granite and bronze. Bronze angel of victory on sphere on very tall scroll-topped obelisk. Palm decoration to corner panels of plinth on stepped base. South panel commemorates dead of First World War; inscription on step those of Second. Top of plinth inscribed AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THE BOROUGH OF WALLSEND WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 ALSO 1939-1945" {1}. Unveiled 11th November 1925. 30 feet high. On the front of the granite obelisk are two palm fronds. On the back is a cross. The granite came from Rubislaw Quarry in Aberdeen. Commissioned by the War Memorial Sub Committee. Designer was Mr Newbury Trent of Chelsea {www.newmp.org.uk}.

Fist floor sash with ovolo-moulded lintel. Rear elevation shows two small square windows and sash and horizontal sliding sash windows. Interior - enclosed stair at left; eighteenth century hinges on plank doors to upper room and cupboard in that room. LISTED GRADE 2
