Baptist Chapel in Stephenson's Street. Shown on Wood's map of 1827. Built as an assembly room. In use as a Baptist Chapel from 1799 to 1866, then became a Temperance Hall and, after alterations, Central Hall in 1888.

Methodist Chapel in Howard Street. Shown on Woods map of 1827. Built in 1807 or 1808, cost £2500, seated 2000. In 1891 the chapel became a theatre when Albion Road Memorial Church was built. In 1908 it became a cinema (Howard Hall) and was still operating in 1933. The cinema was known locally as 'The Ranch' because it showed lots of westerns.

Scotch Church in Howard Street was constructed in 1811. Shown on Woods 1827 map. Designed by John Dobson for a secessionist church, which later became Presbyterian, in the Greek revival style. Cost £2275. Described by Faulkner and Greg as "rather crude" and a "severe neoclassical building". The building had a three bay façade with Doric pilasters. Greek temple effect, with steps up to the front. The church had no pediment, its entablature was surmounted by a tall attic storey. The mouldings above the windows on ground floor were supported by brackets embellished with a "curious motif of animal skulls" (bull's heads). Later became Salvation Army Citadel. The Scotch Church movement was established in 1759 by the Rev. Joseph Wilkinson. By deed the Minister had to be a licentiate of the Church of Scotland. Somewhat altered but restorable. The school of 1841 attached to the left has been severely altered. Restored and adapted 1958 (tablet). Later became Salvation Army Citadel.

A ropery is shown on Fryer's 1772 map and Woods 1827 map at Chirton.

This is shown on Fryer's map as a ropery on Mr. Stephenson's ground and later on Woods map is described as Metcalf's Ropery.

The ropery is shown on Fryer's 1772 survey on Mr. Parson's ground and on Woods map. On the 1st edition OS it is shown as a shorter establishment, allowing George Street to extend further west. Replaced by terraced housing in the late 19th century. Stone walls and brick culverts possibly relating to the ropery were revealed during an archaeological evaluation in 2010.

A ropery is shown on the 1757 map of North Shields lying behind Low Street, it is called Mathew Walter's ropery on Fryer's 1772 survey and although it is not clear may exist in a shortened form on the 1st edition OS map.

Ralph Gardner of Chirton was imprisoned in 1652 for refusing to close his brewery in North Shields, evidence of the Newcastle Corporation attempting to stifle commerce at North Shields.

Craster states that in the mid C17 there were salt pans at the western end of Dortwick where sands stretched out across the Tyne.
