The 401T steamship Vianna sank after being struck by a torpedo 8.5m miles south and 0.5 miles east of a point, 2 miles east of Souter. The date of the sinking is recorded as 31st March 1918. The NGR places it off Ryhope and Seaham rather than Souter.
