Description
1920 wreck of English tug which stranded near Sunderland on her passage from Shoreham-by-Sea to the River Tyne. She was a steam-powered vessel, constructed of concrete, hence her name CRETECABLE; all British concrete ships were assigned names with the suffix CRETE-. At the time of loss, she was towing the CRETEROCK, which was also lost.

A 262 ton concrete tug measuring 38.25m x 8.43m x 3.83m which ran aground near Sunderland on 9th or 29th October 1920 on her passage from Shoreham-by-Sea to the River Tyne. She was a steam-powered vessel, constructed of concrete, hence her name CRETECABLE; all British concrete ships were assigned names with the suffix CRETE-. At the time of loss, she was towing the CRETEROCK (HER 13841), which was also lost. In June 1920 Cretecable had struck the North Pier at Great Yarmouth when entering the harbour and sank but obviously was not lost. Launched: 17.07.1917
