Ford Lodge was constructed in the mid-19th century adjacent to an existing building of late 18th or early 19th century date which was demolished in the 1960s. The extant Ford Lodge is described as a typical mid-19th century villa and was constructed for the Gale family who were known locally for shipbuilding. The building was converted into a care home in 1978 and subsequently demolished in 2006.
