1984-90 by the Napper Collerton Partnership. Post modern classical in design. First major building of the Quayside revival. A new material for the Quayside, red sandstone from Dumfriesshire. Full height piers support a high gallery; brick sides and rear, with nautical portholes.

Built by the North Eastern Railway in 1921 to the Garden Suburb model (a village laid out systematically with spacious garden-like surroundings). Includes Harewood Road, Grange Road, Strathmore Road, Langholm Road, Linthorpe Road, Granville Road plus some houses on the Great North Road and Broadway East.

Newcastle's first council houses were built on Walker Road to standards established from 1903 by Ebenezer Howard's Garden City Movement in Letchworth, Herts. The Walker Road houses have been demolished.

Newcastle held a competition for private model cottages at Walkergate in 1908.

One of the pavilions in the park was designed by W and T.R. Milburn of Sunderland in 1929.

A single brick house of the 1830s with giant pilasters and big eaves.

In 1838 Market Street included Emerson Muschamp Bainbridge and William Alder Dunn's drapers and fashion shop. In 1849 weekly takings were recorded by department (there were 23) possibly making the premises England's first department store. This ledger survives and is held by John Lewis Partnership's archive. The two partners fell out and went their separate ways. Emerson Bainbridge died in 1892 and his sons took over the business. The store had 11,705 square yards of floor space. 600 staff were employed. In 1897 the business became a private limited company. In 1953 ownership transferred to the John Lewis Partnership. By 1974 the department store became one of the most successful in the country. In 1976 the store moved into Eldon Square shopping centre, becoming the largest John Lewis store outside London. In 2002 the store lost the Bainbridge name and was re-branded John Lewis.

Several blocks of medieval or post medieval ridge and furrow were seen as earthworks on vertical photographs from the 1940s, most of the blocks have since been built over. Some of the ridge and furrow on the coast edge can still be seen as soil marks as it has been plough-levelled.
