Terrace
SITEDESC
Early C19 workers' terraced houses. Although the terrace has been demolished there is still considerable evidence of these cottages visible. The site has not been redeveloped and is untidy and overgrown. Some of the city's earliest workers cottages. Old photographs show a substantial and quite grand row of three storey brick houses with basement coal cellars. Small single front room with yard to rear. Centrally placed communal lavatories and wash block. The rear wall, part brick, part stone survives with some side walls which include fireplaces. The terrace is named Pitman's Row on the second edition OS of 1896. Plans for flushing toilets were submitted in 1894.
