SITEDESC
Shown on Ordnance Survey first edition. Wesleyan Methodist. Built circa 1844 and in use until circa 1866. Seated 300. The centenary referred to appears to be that of the first Methodist Conference in 1744. A simple early galleried chapel with square-headed windows, a chamfered band at mid-height and flanking stair projections. By the OS second edition of 1896 the chapel had become the Mushroom Brass Works. The shell of the chapel still survives as 'The Mushroom Works' today.

Shown on Ordnance Survey second edition. On site of St Lawrence Chapel (HER 220) and Mushroom Bottle Works (HER 4170).
In 2018 an evaluation trench was positioned at the site of the Mushroom Bottle Works and whiting works. Within the evaluation trench, brick and stone walls were identified in addition to a cobbled rough brick surface these remains probably related to the former bottle and whiting works.

Shown on Ordnance Survey second edition. A photograph of 1886 shows the hotel, two storeys, slate roof with 4 chimney pots and apparently rendered, with the names Shiel and Mackay above the central door. Adjoining the hotel is a ramshackle ship chandler's and provision dealer's run by Edward Nunn & Co. This building is built of stone rubble, has sash windows and a tiled roof with a tiny dormer window. Regular pigeon racing competitions were run from here. It closed in 1903.
