Built in 1870 with two beacons and two masts for navigational purposes. The house was purposely built single storey but double fronted to provide the same living space as the others in the terrace. This unique property adds a great deal of character and interest to Beverley Terrace. It is an interesting building with good historical links. John Penn (2009) says the architect was Frank West Rich.

Description
According to CW Steel's book on Monkseaton there was a Rake House Farm present in 1660. The present buildings are C19 in date. The earliest documentary reference in in 1841 when it appears in the census records for Monkseaton Township. In 1849 the farm was leased to Joseph and William Fenwick. At this time the farm contained just over 120 acres. During the mid-late 19th century the farm grew in size. The mid 19th century gingang was demolished in the mid 1970s. A buildings recording of the farmhouse, cart shed, granary, threshing shed, east and west wing, central extension and yard was undertaken in 2008 by Entec ahead of the farms conversion to offices. The report concluded that most of the elements of the farm predated the 1870s. The central part of the outbuildings appeared to be the earliest in date. The date above the farmhouse door '1824' is earlier than any documentary evidence for the occupation of the farm. The farmhouses is also not shown on plans dated 1841. The stone is most likely re-used. LOCAL LIST

Attractive stone cottage known as The Smithy. An attractive stone built cottage, known as the Smithy. Stone water tabling and a Welsh Slate roof are apparent. It is subservient to the more stately Georgian facades, but with its use of materials and detailing contributes to the character and appearance of the Earsdon conservation area. Unfortunately top hung mock sash window have been installed which detract from its character. The Cottage has two bedrooms.
