Western range has square tower with pointed arches in upper stages and coped crenellated parapets at north-west corner. NAA (2006) suggest that the stable block may contain 18th century fabric from an earlier stable block which accompanied the Palladian villa. West of the stable block are two sub-rectangular plots delimited by rows of chamfered stone posts which were once linked by iron railings with a hedge behind. These may have been drying yards. A photographic survey of the stable block was made 2014 by NAA. The stable was also monitored by the same team during consolidation works in the same year. The stables provide an illustration of the advances made in equestrian husbandry in the 18th and 19th century and may have influenced John Nash's later designs at the Royal Mews - they are of considerable historical value.
