Description
A series of pits which may relate to small-scale tanning industry on the site were revealed during an excavation at the former Westgate Road parcel offices site in 2010. These are thought to have been in use from the 13th-16th century at which point the emphasis of the site appears to shift from industrial to domestic use. Medieval deposits forming a possible road surface and soil build-ups containing large amounts of pottery were also recorded. Linear gullys and more pits were located during a watching brief in 2011 to the south of the main site.

These are thought to have been in use from the 13th-16th century at which point the emphasis of the site appears to shift from industrial to domestic use. The most prominent features was a circular pit measuring 1.35m in diameter with a maximum depth of 0.85m. Degraded wooden remains were identified around the sides and base of the feature. Environmental remains suggest the pit was used as a cesspit but the collective zooarchaeological assemblage suggest it may have originally been a tanning pit. Medieval deposits forming a possible road surface and soil build-ups containing large amounts of pottery were also recorded. Linear gullies and more pits were located during a watching brief in 2011 to the south of the main site beneath the railway arches.

Description
Evidence of Roman occupation dating to the 3rd-4th centuries. Features include a Roman ditch on the former parcel office site and a smaller ditch recorded between the railway arches south of the parcel office. A substantial amount of Roman pottery was also recovered from the site. This activity is thought to be related to the delineation of areas close to the military area, the terminus of Hadrian's Wall and the Pons Aelius fort, rather than any domestic activity relating to the Vicus.
