2002 by Simon Watkinson. Four perspex cubes with glass and LEDs set flush into the plinth of Grey's Monument. Each cube contains an image of Earl Grey's head from a different angle, taken from the head of the statue when it was being cleaned. Commissioned by the Grainger Town Partnership.

The lamps are on a flight of steps in front of the library and reduce in size to emphasise perspective. The tubular top of the lamp represents a figure diving into the pool. At night there are blue lights in the slots in the lamps. Commissioned by Newcastle City Council.

There are also three decorative steel infill panels in the square. A reset section of Hadrian's Wall, which was archaeologically excavated before the square was created is on display. The position of the cippi pits is marked by steel markers in the pavement.
