A 14ft high sandstone obelisk dating to around 1832. The inscriptions read "Here lie buried two hundred and twenty two persons who died of cholera in Gateshead from Dec. 26 MDCCCXXI [1831] to Nov. 5 MDCCCXXXII [1832]" and "In the midst of life we are in death" and "Watch therefore for ye know not what for your Lord doth come". This was the first outbreak of cholera in Gateshead, and it led to the founding of the Gateshead Dispensary on 2nd November 1832. Manders notes that there were 234 victims of the epidemic. 42 of these lived in Pipewellgate, 22 in Oakwellgate and 29 in Hillgate. The very first victim was a Mary Hymers or Hindmarsh "a rag-gatherer of depraved habits".

1986 by Andy Frost. A large artwork to mark the northern entrance to the Derwent Walk County Park. This is a marine plywood and steel artwork, finished with gloss paints and lacquers, of a steam train. It is mounted on top of the 19th century bridge abutment of the redundant railway viaduct which spanned the road. Commissioned by Tyne and Wear County Council and Gateshead MBC. Sponsored by the same, plus the Countryside Commission and Northern Arts. Grade II listed in Aug 2016 for artistic interest as an engaging work which celebrates the railway heritage and amenities of the Derwent Valley and historic interest as an early example of arts-led regeneration in the North-East.

1991 by Gordon Young. A group of statues in Shap limestone with a polished finish depicting the three ages of man. There are three sets of paired figures representing childhood, maturity and old age. Located outside the Registrar's Office. Commissioned by Gateshead MBC. Sponsored by Gateshead MBC, Northern Arts, Henry Moore Foundation.

1977 by Raf Fulcher. Raf Fulcher was commissioned by Northern Arts and Tyne and Wear County Council to create the first artwork at the new series of Metro stations. This is an abstract stylised sculpture in stone, timber and copper. The Great Metro Guide to Tyne and Wear describes the piece as "reminiscent of those triangular trees which can be found in formal gardens in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries". Fulcher is a teacher of sculpture at Sunderland University.

1977 by Neil Talbot. A terracotta relief mosaic of a Victorian baker's shop occupying a bricked-up shop window, using 250 carved ceramic blocks. 5m x 2.5m.

1984 by Richard Cole. 5000 tons of stone formed into an architectural feature of interlocking viewing platforms.

1986 by Colin Rose. Stainless steel sculpture, 6m x 3m.

1986 by Mike Winstone. Made with a polystyrene core covered by a lattice work of galvanised steel rods and concrete cladding. The sculpture represents Gateshead's interest in sports and athletics, depicted the sack race and egg and spoon race using the hare and tortoise from Aesop's Fables. The original colours of red, green, orange and yellow were later changed to monochrome black at the artist's request. Commissioned by Gateshead MBC.
