1982 by David Kemp. An abstract sculpture in metal. This is a wheeled horse and carriage made from a complex of metal and scrap, incorporating objects which reference the transport theme. The piece contrasts with the vitreous enamel finishes of the station and the subject matter alludes to the earliest form of rail transport.

1994/5 by David Gross. A community carving in timber. A collaboration with King George Comprehensive School. The piece, which lies close to a pond, is an upturned boat with a sheltered seat inside. The artist, David Gross, described the concept behind the sculpture: "The dream boat will be a vessel for voyages of the imagination rather than a physical trip over water. As ordinary ships pick up limpets and barnacles along with scratches and scats, which are evidence of their travels, the dream boat will be encrusted with small relief carvings of images from an imaginary journey. Its thick walls will surround you quietening outside interferences helping you to focus on the calm still waters of the pond while you day dream".

1994 by Chris Sell. This is a community carving in timber, part of a waymarking scheme of the Great North Forest. The piece comprises of two wooden posts surmounted by a sun and a cockerel.

1994. A statue of early film comedian Stan Laurel, born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in Ulverston, Cumbria in 1890. Stan Laurel lived at No. 8 Dockwray Square from 1897 to 1901. The statue shows him in comic pose, scratching his head, with bowler hat in hand. The statue stands in a fenced and gated park.

1991 by Susanna Robinson. A bronze statue on a slate pedestal. This is a posed statue of the Newcastle United footballer Jackie Milburn. It was erected by public subscription through the Newcastle Evening Chronicle following the death of the former hero. The statue was originally located in Northumberland Street but it was relocated in 1999 nearer to St. James Park football stadium. There is another statue of Jackie Milburn in his birthplace of Ashington.

1988 by Robert Olley. This fibreglass statue commemorates John Simpson Kirkpatrick, who was born in South Shields in 1892. He was a member of the Australian Army Medical Corps and carried many dead and wounded soldiers with his donkey from the battleground at Gallipoli during the First World War. He died at Gallipoli on 9th May 1915. "JOHN SIMPSON KIRKPATRICK 'THE MAN WITH THE DONKEY' 202 PTE. J. SIMPSON AUST. ARMY MEDICAL CORPS. BORN SOUTH SHIELDS 6 JULY 1892 DIED GALLIPOLI 19 MAY 1915. A HERO OF THE GREAT WAR". There is also a statuette in South Shields Museum. The donkey, called Murphy, was awarded the Purple Cross for Animal Bravery in Australia in 1997. Simpson carried over 15 injured soldiers on the donkey, unarmed. He was serving in the Anzac Forces after emigrating to Australia {www.newmp.org.uk}.

1994/5 by Matthew Jarratt and Neil Canavan. Various sculptures and seats in brick, timber and steel in conjunction with local schools (Toner Avenue County Junior Mixed Infants School, St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Comprehensive, Hebburn Community Centre and Hebburn Sea Cadets. A Groundwork South Tyneside and Tyne and Wear Development Corporation visual arts initiative.

This sculpture of c. 1993, in timber, brick and metal, was designed and built by Freeform artists with the help of the community of John Spence School. These mooring posts were traditionally used in the River Tyne. The project was sponsored by the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation with support from Swarland Brick Company, North Tyneside Council and Scottish and Newcastle Breweries.

1974 by Henry and Joyce Collins, who have work on the Post Office Tower in London. This wall relief (called 'Newcastle Through The Ages') on the north elevation of British Home Stores, is made from ciment-fondu mosaic, paint and stone. It is divided into six panels, each 2m x 1.25m. It shows the themes of Monkchester, Oceanus, Pons Aelius and Geordie and various local engineers, architects, tradesmen, shipwrights, artists and social reformers.

1972 by W. Robson, City Architect. This is a 4m high stainless steel four sided clock tower "given to the City of Newcastle by Callers the Home of Good Furnishing to Celebrate their 75th Anniversary 1897-1972" {1}. Stands at the junction of Northumberland Street and Northumberland Road just across from British Home Stores. The clock tower and supports are 27 feet 5 inches high and carry four single-dial drum clocks each 2 feet 6 inches in diameter. The clocks are illuminated at night. Messrs Gent of Leicester supplied the clocks and structure, which was built by Messrs. R. Hutchinson and Co. Ltd of Newcastle. The whole concept was designed by the City Architect.
