An altar of yellow sandstone, 0.36 x 0.66 x 0.17 metres, complete, but very badly weathered. There are five lines of text within an inset panel: ((.))EO((...)) CIDIVCV F((.))CIT((...))V RNINVS ((.)) PRO((.)) ((... Perhaps Deo .../.../f((e))cit ((Sat))u/rninus ((?))? pro((... S (for s(ancto. The dedication remains obscure – perhaps to Saturninus. Found in 1977, in an unstratified context, in Railway Arch 1, during archaeological excavations in Castle Garth.

Surviving traces fit Saturninus, but the restoration is conjectural. The final pro suggests the formula pro se et suis for which however there is insufficient room and little support in the surviving traces". Found in 1977, in an unstratified context, in Railway Arch 1, during archaeological excavations in Castle Garth.

Description
Whinstone boulder, 24 x 12 inches, found in 1890 at Rye Hill, Newcastle, embedded in clay at a depth of 5 feet below street level. The site lies south of milecastle 5 and near the supposed line of the Vallum. The stone was in the Black Gate in 1930, but apparently not so in 1947. On it was a row of nine circles, in a straight line, and below them was inscribed VIII.

A dedication-slab, 26 x 19 inches, found in 1903 in dredging the north channel of the Swing Bridge, Newcastle, along with HER ref. 1462 & 1463. Inscribed: Imp(eratori) Antoni/no Aug(usto) Pio p(atri) / Pat(riae) uexil(l)atio / leg(ioni) II Aug(ustae) et leg(ioni) / VI Vic(trici) et leg(ioni) / XX V(aleriae) V(ictrici) con(t)r(i)buti ex Ger(maniis) du/obus sub Iulio Ve/ ro leg(ato) Aug(usti) pr(o) p(raetore) - For the Emperor Antoninus Augustus Pius, father of his country, the detachment (of men) contributed from the two Germanies for the Second Legion Augusta and the Sixth Legion Victrix and the Twentieth Legion Valeria Victrix, under Julius Verus, emperor's pro-praetorian legate, (set this up). Julius Verus was governor of Britain c.155-159 A.D.

An altar, 20 x 49 inches, found in 1903 in the north channel, Swing Bridge, Newcastle with HER ref. 1462. On the front, in a moulded panel, is carved a large vertical anchor. Inscribed: Ociano leg(io) / VI Vi(ctrix) / P(ia) F(idelis) - To Ocianus the Sixth Legion Victrix Pia Fidelis (set this up). Found at the same time was a base stone, too small for this altar, but fitting HER ref. 1462.

About 10 letters are erased, presumably the names of an emperor, suggesting the altar cannot be earlier than the reign of Commodus, the first emperor to be so treated after the building of the Wall.
