The golf course is shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1942 and 1951, with a club house immediately south of St. Cuthbert's Church. A line of three sub-rectangular enclosures were also seen on the air photographs. The golf course is later shown as "playing field".

The form of the gun-emplacements suggests they may be later than 1943 in date. Now levelled {1}. More likely to be a test place for guns from the nearby depot (HER 1829) according to Alan Rudd. The guns had to be tested away from the depot and away from the ammunition stores.
